More Information:
Founded: 2001
Beginnings:
Habitat for Humanity Lebanon is a part of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat International's goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat began working in Lebanon in 2001,
sheltering thousands of displaced Lebanese in 65 mixed communities in south Lebanon. It is now involved in projects nationwide and, using a participatory approach rooted in firm beliefs of empowerment and
transformation, has played an important role in renewing the concept of development in a country that has
focused primarily on economic growth since the civil war.
Activities:
Habitat Lebanon's activities have included the following:
- A Sustainable Development programme, which has served over 350 families in over 60 villages.
- A Disaster Response programme following the war of 2006, which helped families whose homes required repair or reconstruction.
- A Technical Services project, which aims to provide families with the architectural and civil plans necessary to rebuild their homes.
- A Financial Literacy project, giving families a financial education.
