More Infomation:
Founded: 1960
Director: Chadi and Joyce Melki
Beginnings:
The Cedar Home was founded by local Christians in Beirut, to care for girls who have lost at least one parent, due to divorce, separation or death, and where the other parent is unable to provide for them.
Activities:
- The girls live at the Home as one big family and House mothers support and care for them. The children all take a share in the chores according to their age and ability. There are regular prayers and Bible studies.
- The girls go to local schools, where they can meet other children their age and are encouraged to join local social groups. They live at the Home either until they can return to their families or until they reach adulthood and become independent. The Home continues to provide ongoing support when they leave.
- The Home also helps another 30 local children from very poor families by helping to pay the children’s school fees and providing additional tutoring in the afternoon. After an evening meal, these children return home to their families.
