More Infomation:
Founded: 1928
Director: Father Yeghish Manjikian
Beginnings:
In 1928, Danish missionary Miss Maria Jacobsen opened the Danish Birds’ Nest Orphanage in Byblos (Jbeil) for children who had been orphaned by the Armenian massacres. In 1970, the Armenian Orthodox Church took over the management of the Home.
Activities:
- The 50 children who live at Birds’ Nest Home are from Armenian Christian families. Since 2003, the younger children have received lessons at the Home, while older children have attended a local school as day students. This routine allows them to meet, play and work with other children, thus helping them to integrate more fully into society.
- The children live at the home during the academic year, returning to their families for weekends and during holidays.
- The Home also runs a summer camp with the help of volunteers. The children take part in games, sports, music and craft activities.
